Luis Garicano

Valladolid, 1967

Luis Garicano (Valladolid, 1967) is professor of Economics and Strategy at the Instituto de Empresa (IE) and vice-president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago, where he has spent most of his teaching and research career focused on productivity growth, new technologies and work organization. He has been a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the London Business School, among other academic institutions. He has been professor of Economics and Strategy in the Departments of Business Administration and Economics at the London School of Economics. In 2007 he received the Fundación Banco Herrero Award for the best Spanish researcher under 40 years of age in the fields of economic, business and social knowledge and has been rated by the Financial Times as one of the most prestigious young economists in the world. He is a frequent contributor to several media outlets, including the Financial Times.
